My Story So Far

I fell in love with travelling as a backpacker in my 20s. Then I returned home and fell in love with my husband, Terry. We were together for 18 very happy years. He was my best friend, my partner in crime and my ever-faithful travelling companion.

Then tragedy struck in 2014 when he went in for a heart operation and never returned to me.

The world stopped spinning. Overnight my life became unrecognisable. I felt huge loss, but I also felt lost. Everything that seemed so important before just felt so irrelevant to me now.

I was in my mid 40s and for the last 20 years had been part of a couple. I had no idea what the next chapter of my life held for me or if I was even interested in finding out.

My amazing friends and family came to the rescue for the first year. They knew my passion for travel and I received regular invites to go on trips with them. This gave me chunks of time to be at home to come to terms with what had happened. It was peppered with interesting adventures like skiing in Canada, searching for orangutans in Borneo and spending my first birthday alone with my family in Hawaii.

Then I realised that in time the invites would dry up. Eventually everyone would go back to their lives and I would no longer be a priority for them. I realised I needed to take control of my life again. When my workplace offered me an opportunity for redundancy, I grabbed it with both hands and went on a journey of self-discovery.

I started with writing out my Life List. It was basically a Bucket List but “things to do before you kick the bucket” was too close to home for me. I wanted a list to bring me back to life again. Unsurprisingly very travel focused, it became my roadmap for the next few years.

Through travel I was able to reconnect with myself again. It gave me time to breathe, to grieve, to heal and finally to find my smile again. It was then I decided to start a blog to help inspire others in my situation to take a journey back to themselves too.

I have now visited almost 80 countries, across 6 continents and have first-hand experience of the restorative power of travel. It has helped me to find myself…twice. I believe it can do the same for you.

It’s not about how much time or money you have. It’s not about how young or old you are. It’s not about how strong or weak you perceive yourself to be, either physically, emotionally, or mentally. You are stronger than you know.

Maybe like me you feel a bit lost. Maybe you are at a cross-roads and are unsure where you want life to go next. Maybe you are standing on the edge of the next chapter but not sure which direction you want it to take you.

If you need time to refocus on yourself before making decisions on what to do next. If you want a similar transformational travel experience but don’t know where to start. If you need space to rediscover who you are and what you want now…

Whatever has brought you to this point. I can help you.
